JEWELRY CARE; THE CONCISE MANUAL
SHORT AND CLEAR, EXPRESSING WHAT NEEDS TO BE SAID WITHOUT UNNECESSARY WORDS
THERE IS NO RESTRICTION AGAINST WEARING JEWELRY CONSTANTLY. AND WE DEFINITELY DON'T ADVISE YOU TO SAVE YOUR JEWELRY OR AVOID WEARING IT; JUST SET THE CORRECT EXPECTATIONS IF YOU DO. THE MORE YOU WEAR IT, AND THE ROUGHER YOU WEAR IT, THE MORE YOU WILL NEED TO MAINTAIN IT. WHILE BASIC CLEANING CAN BE ACHIEVED AT HOME, WE RECOMMEND HAVING YOUR JEWELRY PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED AND INSPECTED (CHECK YOUR STONE SETTINGS ON A REGULAR BASIS) EVERY 6 MONTHS OR AS NEEDED.
01. TAKE YOUR JEWELRY OFF IF YOU'RE INVOLVED IN ANY ACTIVITY WHICH COULD KNOCK OR DAMAGE IT.
"Jewelry can likely take a dip in the pool, or even an occasional shower at the gym, but it's not a good idea to make it a habit.”
02. TAKE IT OFF WHEN YOU GO TO BED.
“Even though you may have slept in jewelry before without any issue, sleeping in your nice pieces is a definite no.”
03. KEEP IT WELL AWAY FROM CHEMICALS, ESPE- CIALLY CHLORINE.
If it does come into contact with chemicals, rinse it in water immediately.
TAKING CARE OF SOMETHING IS SUBJECTIVE, NOT AN OBLIGATION AND IS ONLY SOMETHING YOU CAN DEFINE FOR YOURSELF.
04. BATHE AND APPLY ANY LOTIONS OR PERFUMES BEFORE YOU PUT YOUR JEWELRY.
Shampoo and conditioner can get stuck behind mountings, and might also contain chemi- cals that can damage the metal over time."
05. STORE SEPARATELY. YOU'D BE UPSET IF SOME- THING. SCRATCHES.
When moving jewels from one location to another, store them into velvet pouches that are du- rable enough to protect them from physical and environmen- tal challenges.
JEWELRY IS ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE POSSESSIONS THAT MANY PEOPLE OWN, BUT IT IS ALSO ONE OF THE MOST VULNER- ABLE ITEMS PRONE TO RISK OF DAMAGE.
06. PUT IT ON LAST, TAKE IT OFF FIRST.
Your jewelry should always be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. “ Certain chemicals found in modern makeup can cause your jewelry to tarnish as well. It could be a result of your earrings resting on the side of your face or makeup touching and coating your neck- lace when you remove it.
IS THERE SOMETHING ELSE?
Mix a small amount of soap with lukewarm water and scrub the item with a soft toothbrush. Toothbrushes are ideal for cleaning jewelry with hard-to-reach corners. If dirt remains, repeat the process in clean water. Import- ant: gold-plated items must be handled with greater care. Rubbing too hard may result in plating loss. It is there- fore critical that you proceed with caution in order to avoid any damage. If your jewelry has become darkened over time, a special silver-polishing cloth is an excellent tool for restoring its luster. This technique, however, will not remove any scratches or dents from the jewelry.
